Un-Plugged "EU Sockets" mid Graffiti Art Sticker Pack
[plug eu m]
£0.00 £0.00

By Matt JOnes 2007

Un-Plugged project Phase .1. EU SOCKETS

Packs contain 20 stickers.

The un-plugged project 2002 – 2008 by the un-plugged team.

It started way back in 2002, two likely lads (who prefer to remain anonymous) had this shocking idea for a street based guerrilla sticker campaign called “un-plugged”. The concept was clear, to promote free ‘power’ via a vast alternative ‘network’ of non-electricity… by re-appropriating the ‘classic’ design of a very familiar every day object... the mains plug socket and freeing it from it’s architectural shackles. No longer would power be confined just to interior walls.

Plug sockets have been spotted on works of art, up mountains, backs of moving vehicles, and even floating down rivers. The public’s reaction to the campaign to date has been one of both confusion and amusement – as intended by the un-plugged team. Being so recognisable, people normally do a double take when they see one - from a short distance they look very real.

The originators were known only as the “plug-socket guys”, spreading their idea all over the globe. Little did they know at the time, that 8 years on (and over 30,000 cheeky socket stickers later) that they would still be sparkys in the power business!

The stickers have since spread internationally – with Euro, Australian and American versions being added to the original UK designs (available in single, double, standard, mini and oversize versions). There are now hundreds of ‘socketeers’ who distribute and ‘connect’ em up worldwide.

Perhaps one day, the constant threats of power cuts, imminent energy shortages and the subsequent global melt-down will be just another strange historical anomaly… of an electric era that was superseded by a more refined energy source. Until then the sockeeteers will continue to spread their network into ever more bizarre places.

Power to the People!
